Our Programs

Since its beginning, the parade has grown into an institution with participation from across generations and across the country.

This annual event takes place before the parade. During the Awards Gala, we honor community leaders and influencers, and provide deserving students with scholarships made available by our partners.

The Royal Court is a group of youth who represent all Bud Billiken® youth. The Royal Court consists of six (6) members - King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Lord and Lady. The Annual Coronation is held the weekend before the parade and kicks off a week of fun, culminating in their special participation in the Bud Billiken® Parade.

The Charities offers internships. Students have the opportunity to prepare for careers and satisfy academic requirements.

Bud Billiken® Showcases are performances and competitions where participating teams compete for grand prize money, sponsor provided prizes and positioning in the Bud Billiken®Parade. Showcases consist of three to four judges that include industry professionals, social influencers and celebrities.

PAL unites performing youth teams and support organizations under a single umbrella. This allows for a collective approach that more efficiently and effectively connects teams with resources and opportunities. Team members are provided with experiences and training in the performing arts and related disciplines. Through their participation, team members are steered away from destructive behavior and develop into productive citizens.

Our classes offer training, experiences and opportunities by allowing students to take classes, online or in person, with experts in their fields.

The Chicago Defender Charities has partnered with various organizations to provide school supplies for under-resourced youth.
